Rumor: PS3 to Get Firefox Web Browser
Video game consoles like the PlayStation 3 aren’t exactly the most convenient way to surf the Web, but with all the connectivity and downloadable content available to consoles lately, Web browsing on consoles continues to grow. Of course, none of the browsers have a particularly useful browser built in, the PS3 included, which is what makes this new rumor so tantalizing: A source at Sony says the company is in talks with Mozilla to bring the Firefox browser to the PS3.
While a direct port of Firefox to a console like the PS3 would be a little cumbersome, a Firefox version designed specifically for use with a game pad would be a huge boon for Sony. It would make the PS3 even more...
Project Natal Release Date and Bundle Details Leaked
We’ve been impatiently waiting for the launch of Project Natal ever since it was unveiled at E3 last summer. Details about the release of the motion control device for the Xbox 360 have leaked out and it appears that we have a lot longer to wait.
Gaming publication MCV cites anonymous sources who say Natal’s controller-free camera interface will be shipping worldwide in November 2010. Yep, an entire year from now. The sources got the information from a secretive Microsoft tour of their British publishers and development studios.
Other leaked details from the tour include plans to have 5 million units ready to ship at release, including a mix of Natal only packages and Natal...
Nintendo DSi LL Announced, Screen Almost Doubles in Size
The myriad rumors about a larger Nintendo DSi with a 4-inch screen turned out to be true and remarkably accurate. Today, Nintendo announced the DSi LL, which almost doubles the screen size to 4.2 inches. Consequently, the whole device is larger, but if you want more screen real estate it might be worth it.
As you can see from the image below (the new, larger DSi LL in burgundy compared with the original DSi in white), the device is wider and taller than the previous version, and both screens are definitely bigger, but the whole thing isn’t much thicker than the DSi. The stylus seems to have gained a lot of weight though.
Besides the size of the screen, there don’ t seem to...
Rumor Confirms Netflix Streaming Coming to Wii
The poor little Wii must have felt left out after Netflix announced Watch Instantly movie streaming would be coming to the PS3. The Wii remains the lone major console to not have authorized Netflix streaming. Of course, the Wii being one of the best-selling consoles in America, you can’t expect it to remain so for long, and that’s exactly what some early rumors are telling us.
Even though the Xbox 360 was supposed to have an exclusive deal to stream movies to Netflix Watch Instantly subscribers, the PS3 will have the ability to do so via an app on a free Blu-ray disc quite soon. The Wii also has an optical drive that could presumably run an app off a similar disc (and...
Netflix Announces Streaming Video for the PS3 Coming Next Month
Apparently the big announcement Netflix and Microsoft made about the Xbox 360 being the only console authorized to stream movies from Netflix wasn’t entirely true. Netflix must have been crossing their fingers behind their back when saying that because the company just announced streaming capabilities for the PS3.
So how did the “exclusive agreement” suddenly become so unexclusive?
It’s possible that there were plans to extend the Watch Instantly service to the PS3 from the beginning but it’s equally possible Netflix streaming is coming to the PlayStation via a loophole. Instead of having the Netflix Watch Instantly queue available from the PS3 version of...
