We already told you about the experience we had watching the ioSafe hard drive getting absolutely burninated in a furnace and coming out unscathed (with, of course, the obligatory references to witch trials and those three guys in the Bible, but surprisingly we passed up the opportunity for an allusion to Billy Joel). However, despite feeling like we described the experience pretty well, we know nothing will be able to communicate how cool it was like actual video of the event. So we've included two clips after the break so you can revel in the glory of toasted gigabytes along with us.
The first video just shows the dunk, the burn and the completely unharmed data that was retrieved from the device. If you'd like to see the "unboxing" of the drive after we burned it at 1600 degrees Farenheit, check out the second video.
As you can see, the ioSafe Solo is just a regular hard drive that's been encased in a special ceramic insulation. While it was quite warm when he pulled it out (notice the ioSafe branded oven mitt, those boys are clever) it still contained all the data we put in it.
This was by far the best product demo we saw at CES. You probably just rolled your eyes and thought, "You're just saying that because it involved fire."
Precisely.
Even though the ioSafe technology isn't as flashy, burning things will always be able to trump the experience of flicking your finger across a touchscreen. Take note, Apple. I expect to be invited to a demo of your new fireproof iPhone concept at next year's CES.
